Online workshops September 2020

Are you a professional or volunteer working with children or young people in Jersey? If so, our forthcoming series of free online workshops might be the ideal platform for you to have your say on what the Island needs to change, keep the same or start doing more of.

Why we're running these workshops

Jersey is bound by international law to respect, protect and fulfil children’s rights, and the Island's progress is monitored by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

The Committee monitors this progress through a reporting cycle. The first step of this process is to identify emerging trends and key issues that children’s rights defenders think should be covered in what is known as the List of Issues Prior to Reporting. This is done through a short report, capped at 10,000 words, which gives brief context on key issues and puts forward questions that participants think the UN Committee should ask the Government of Jersey to report on.

The Children’s Commissioner will be submitting a report identifying key issues in Jersey, and is seeking input from civil society organisations to share what they believe should be raised in the report.

We are holding a series of online workshops in September and warmly invite charities, academics and other organisations to attend.

The first workshop will be an introductory session to explain the reporting process and opportunities for influence. We will then have six thematic workshops looking at different areas, and are asking participants to share what they think the key issues are.
