Help us celebrate World Children’s Day 2024
#My10Words
This World Children’s Day, help us celebrate 10 years of the UNCRC in Jersey in just 10 words.
Children’s rights will be at the heart of everything we do in Jersey – this is the promise that we made in Jersey, ten years ago, when our Government adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
Now, a decade on, our office is marking this major milestone with a series of celebrations around World Children’s Day in November.
One of those celebrations is the #My10Words project.
We want you to tell us what children’s rights mean to you, and we’d like you to do it using just ten words – one for every year of the UNCRC in our island.
Maybe you have a personal story to tell, or perhaps a hope for the future or a lesson from the past – whatever your take, we’re keen to hear it.
Here are a few efforts from our team and some of the young people we know to get the ball rolling…
The Big Day
Every November, UNICEF World Children’s Day is celebrated around the world with events that are designed for children, by children.
This year is a special milestone for Jersey, as it marks ten years since we adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, committing to protect and promote the rights of all children on the Island.
We thought that this would be a good reason to pull out the stops and make World Children’s Day 2024 one to remember.
So how can you get involved?
We will be putting on a special event on 21st November 2024 which will bring children and young people together with adult decision-makers to talk about how we can all promote and protect children’s rights. We are looking for passionate and imaginative young people aged 13-17 to help us make this special!
You do not have to be a children’s rights expert to get involved, or a top student or even the world’s most confident person. We’re just looking for young people who care, who have opinions to share and some of their valuable time to spare.
-
- Perhaps you are a creative person who wants to take part in the visual art projects we have planned?
- Or would you rather come up with your own Ten Word Story on children’s rights and showcase that instead?
- Maybe you are a budding journalist who would like to work with us and the local media to write about, film or broadcast your news and views on children’s rights.
- For those public speakers and party planners out there, we’ll need participants for the event itself, either doing a presentation on stage or helping with the activities we have planned for attendees.
If any of this sounds like you, or someone you know, we would love to hear from you. Just fill in the form here and send it to voice@occj.org.je
Don’t forget, you need to have your parent/carer’s consent to take part, so you need to get them to sign the form too.
We will be choosing between 15 and 20 young people from those who get in touch, and they will then form our Youth Participatory Group for World Children’s Day.
